1 week MOTORBIKE
We
will visit the center of Crete by taking the curvy dirt tracks up to
the slopes of Psiloritis (the island’s highest mountaintop: 2456m).
Monasteries, archaeological sites, gorges and caves will catch our eyes.
At Zaros we will visit the trout farms and have the pleasure to taste
as well. Departing
from Zaros we will drive south, following dirt roads, until we arrive
at the magnificent beaches of Lendas. Toward the end of the afternoon,
a visit to the monastery of Koudouma is on the program.
Skirting
the impressive beaches until Keratokambos, we will continue our journey
along innumerable green houses and agricultural areas that produce the
famous Cretan olives and tasty vegetables, grown for export purposes
to all corners of Europe.
Arriving at
Siteia, we will visit a banana plantation or a winery where they also
prepare dry raisins. On our way back to Mochlos we will stop at Maronia
to learn the processes concerning the olive oil production and its cold
pressing.
We will cross
the mountains covered with impressive windmills that provide the town
of Siteia with its necessary electricity. As we continue we will arrive
at the south coast of the island. At this Libyan coastline we will sample
some of the healthiest Cretan delicacies.
In order to get at Tripti we will follow tracks that lead us through ancient villages. At the top we will be enchanted by the breathtaking panoramic views covered with forests of wild pine trees where tiny chapels are hidden away at the foot of refreshing springs. On
the basis of our template for a week program, all presented excursions
can be entirely modified and adapted. If you would prefer more cultural
journeys, we can replace one or two planned days by visits to one or
two of the following sites:
